Is there a difference between prefabricated FRP-insulated pipes and standard FRP-insulated pipes?
Although their names are similar, prefabricated FRP-insulated pipes and standard FRP-insulated pipes differ fundamentally in structure, material composition, and application; they are not the same product.
The distinction lies in the role that FRP (Fiber-Reinforced Plastic) plays in the pipe assembly. A prefabricated FRP-insulated pipe is a composite structure-conceptually similar to a "steel pipe wearing a padded jacket." Its core is a steel "working pipe" that transports the medium; this is encased in a layer of rigid polyurethane foam for thermal insulation, while the outermost protective "casing" is made of FRP. In this configuration, the FRP serves as an outer protective shell, primarily providing waterproofing, corrosion resistance, and protection against external impacts. Such pipes are widely used in applications requiring direct burial or overhead installation, such as municipal district heating and hot spring water transport. In contrast, a standard FRP-insulated pipe is a single-material pipe; its entire wall is constructed from FRP-a composite of fiberglass and resin. It functions simultaneously as the working pipe and the insulating layer-essentially an "FRP pipe with built-in insulation." These are more commonly used for fluid transport in sectors such as water supply, drainage, and the chemical industry.
