A fusion bond epoxy coated pipe is a steel pipe protected with a single layer of fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) powder. We apply the epoxy electrostatically to a preheated, shot-blasted pipe, where it melts and cures into a hard, tightly bonded barrier. The result is a thin but exceptionally tough coating with strong adhesion and excellent chemical resistance - the trusted choice where higher operating temperatures, smooth internal flow, or reliable cathodic protection performance are required.

Standards & Compliance
Every fusion bond epoxy coated pipe we ship is produced and tested to internationally recognized specifications, with full documentation per batch:
ISO 21809-1 - external FBE coating for buried or submerged pipelines
CSA Z245.20 - FBE external coating for steel pipe
NACE SP0394 - application, performance and quality control of FBE coatings
SY/T 0315 - Chinese specification for FBE coating of buried steel pipes
Test reports, material certificates and third-party inspection (SGS / BV / TUV) are available with every shipment.
Internal & External Application
A fusion bond epoxy coated pipe can be protected on both sides of the pipe wall:
External coating
shields the pipe against soil, groundwater and stray-current corrosion in buried service, and works efficiently together with cathodic protection.
Internal lining
a smooth FBE bore prevents rust and scale build-up, keeps transported fluids clean, and reduces flow friction, making it popular for water injection and product lines.
This dual capability means one coating system can cover both the inside and outside requirements of your pipeline specification.

FAQ
Q: What operating temperature can FBE-coated pipe handle?
A: Standard FBE coating is typically suited to continuous service up to about 100 °C, with higher-temperature grades available for special projects - tell us your design temperature and we will confirm suitability.
Q: When should I choose FBE instead of 3PE/3LPE coating?
A: Choose FBE when operating temperatures are high, when a thin, smooth coating is preferred, or when the line relies on cathodic protection. Choose 3PE/3LPE when the pipe needs a thicker jacket for rocky backfill and heavy mechanical stress. We can recommend either system based on your project conditions.
Q: How are field joints handled after welding?
A: Coating is stopped back from the pipe ends for welding. After joining, the bare area is completed with approved liquid epoxy or FBE field-joint materials, which we can supply together with the pipes.
